Here we will answer the mosted asked questions.

-  When is the best time to come?

Every month is different. But every month we have reliable wind.

We open onthe first of April.

In April the water is cold, you need to wear a wetsuit or drysuit, shoes and in the beginning a cap and gloves are comfortable. For the lessons we are using drysuits. On the beach it is already around 20 degrees. So after a morning kitesurf session you can relax on the beach, taking the sun. It’s quit special to be tanning on the bach in swimwear when you can still see snow on top of the mountains around you. The wind in april is strong. Bring your smallest kites. For the lessons we use most of all kites between 5,5 and 7,5. There will be a rare morning that we need a 9 meter. 99% of the mornings this super strong north wind is blowing. Sunny or cloudy, or rainshowers – no matter this wind blows. In april the south wind is not so reliable. About 3 times a week the Southwind is kiteable. for us this is not reliable enough so we schedule all the lessons and sessions on the mornings. Are you taking a lesson in April? Make sure you bring your thermo wear (wintersport underwear) to wear underneath your drysuit.

In May the water is warming up, shoes and drysuits are not necessary anymore. The water temperature is around 18 degrees  and the air temperature will reach a pleasant 25 degrees. With the warmer temperatures the thermical south wind is getting better and better, 50% reliable. Still the morning wind is favourite. 90% reliable.  But we do take bookings for afternoon sessions.

In June, July, August, first half of September:

The water is warm, both winds are working 70% of the time. In July and August the air temperature reaches 30 degrees. Kiting can be done in a shorty when you’re riding on your board. If you are a beginner than you still get a long legged wetsuit from us.

If you bring a 9 and 12 meter kite then you are good for both sessions. On some mornings the 9 will be to big, so if you have a smaller kite, please bring it as well.

The second half of September and October the water is getting colder, a full wetsuits needs to be worn. The water is still warm, so shoes are most of the time not needed. The south wind is getting less reliable and the north wind is on full strenght again. We only take bookings for the morning sessions.

-  Where do I check the weather?

The weather you can check on windfirder.com or meteotrentino.it. Usually thanks to the mountains the weather is better than in the forcast.

There is NO WIND forcast. Windguru and windfinder are not correct. They do not see the thermical winds. No one can guarantee the wind but in general it blows. If you look out of your hotel/ tent in the morning the water is super flat and zero wind. But up at Capo Reamol there can already be 30 knots of wind. This because the wind is starting around 6 or 7 a.m. in the North.

If there is no wind, you will receive a textmessage or call. If you do not hear anything than you show up in time for your kitesurf session!

-  What do I need to bring?

Water, suncreen, sunglasses or a cap (to wear on the boat, not in the water), a boardshort (to wear over the wetsuit) and swimming wear for under the wetsuit. When you are a beginner then in April, Mai and October you also need to bring thermo wear for under your drysuit.

- Why do I need to make downpayment?

Because we reserve you a place in the boat. The places are limited. If you do not show up, 1 place stays empty. This is not fair for us, and not fair for the people we might have said we are full.

- Why do I have to pay all in advance at the first day?

Because we do not have plenty of time before we start with our morning session. The wind will stop at 10 or 11 am. So we want to get on the water is soon as possible.

- What happens if there is no wind?

When you are doing a the 4 day course or an advanced lesson, we will use this time to learn the self rescue or practise the board feeling by wakeboarding.

If you do a test lesson, it get’s rescheduled.

If you do a jump lesson, then it get’s reschedeled.

If there is no wind for a second time, then it get’s reschedeled.

You can count on 70% of the sessions to continue. For this reason we always put you for 5 days on the schedule when you do a 4 day course. If you had wind all the first 4 days then you are free to cancel the 5th day or you use the reserved place in the boat for having a kitesurf session under supervision or an extra lesson.

- If you do not finish the course you get a voucher with the left hours on it.

- If you do not show up or cancel in less than 24 hours in advance. Then we charge 50%.

Why should you choose Wind Riders?

Quality is garanteed. In 4 days you will be riding consistent downwind. Consistent means more than a lucky 10 meter. If you do not reach this level you get a 5th lesson for free.

You will learn: downwind bodysurfing, upwind bodydragging to recover your board, relaunching your kite in deep water, the self rescue, waterstart, downwind riding.

We use radio helmets and a microphone to communicate with the student in the water.

Safety is guaranteed. We use a go-joe instead of boardleashes.

You spent the maximum time in the water. Also in a group lesson you will have your own kite. Sometimes if the wind is really light, we rotate with 2 or 3 kites. But in general everyone is with their own kite doing their exercises.

How big are the groups?

Maximum 4 students per teacher.

In which languages are the lessons?

English  German, Italian and Dutch.

What is IKO?

IKO is the international kiteboard organization. All our instructors and assistants are IKO qualified. This means they have their medic first aid diploma and the skills to teach kiteboarding according to the IKO standards.

Where do I learn to kitesurf from a beach?

At any IKO school you can learn how to kitesurf from a beach. In holland we recommand Antix Sports. They know the lake and they know what kite of lesson you need.
